Raf Simons designs Blade Runner-style bags for Eastpak
Fashion designer Raf Simons has created a limited-edition collection of bags for Eastpak, which includes a see-through red backpack based on Blade Runner-style visuals.
Eastpak's sixth collaboration with Raf Simons, which was launched 27 January this year, includes a duffel bag, three new backpacks and a reworked shoulder bag.
According to the bag manufacturer, their latest collaboration with the designer was influenced by the cyberpunk aesthetics of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, as well as Asian industrial settings and workwear.
The first item in the collection is the RS Volume Toploader, which is available in brown and grey, features a transparent PVC outer shell with buckled embellishments and a printed inner lining. The main compartment is accessed through a drawstring, and there is a front pocket for storing smaller items.
"This pack walks the line between luxurious elegance and innovative, technical and futuristic streetwear," said the designers.
An update of the classic Eastpak silhouette, the RS Padded backpack is made from a canvas material and includes two main pockets and a reworked zip cover that doubles as a hood.
It is available in four colours – black, navy, brown and rust – each with a contrasting inner lining.
The third backpack in the collection is the RS Functional, which is inspired by "rugged workwear design". It is manufactured from rich canvas in two dark shades – black and navy – and features industrial, metal hardware, as well as PVC detailing.
Designed for weekend use or travel, the RS Duffel has an industrial design that is made from black canvas. It has perspex detailing and features metal hardware and pockets that resemble a tool belt.
The final piece of the collection, the RS Crossover shoulder bag, has a square-shaped black canvas body and includes stash pockets, metal zippers and a transparent window.
Belgian designer Raf Simons is the creative director of Calvin Klein. The designer also has his own eponymous clothing line, which he shows in New York each season, and has collaborated with brands that range from sports giant Adidas to textile manufacturer Kvadrat.
