Competition: win a pair of limited-edition Cloud Edge trainers by On
For our latest competition, we're giving away a pair of limited-edition trainers by Swiss sports brand On, featuring rubber loops on the soles for extra cushioning.
The Cloud Edge shoe is detailed with On's patented CloudTec technology – hollow rubber nodules, known as clouds, run along the sole and collapse on impact to cushion the wearer. The pods also lock in place when pushing off the ground for added support.
The rubber system was originally designed to improve the technique of professional runners, for which it won an award at the Design Prize Switzerland in 2013. On has since adapted the system into a limited-edition Cloud Edge intended for everyday use.
"The all-new, super limited-edition Cloud Edge is the perfect fit for trend-setters, jet-setters and pace-setters," said On.
The brand chose a grey-scale palette for the shoes and a variety of materials that will enhance the comfort.
Breathable wool covers the front, while a more sturdy, leather-like polyurethane provides support around the heel. The tongue is made of terry cloth, contrasting the other finishes.
Complementing the greyscale are a white reflective logo on the side and small dots decorating the back of heel.
On was co-founded by Olivier Bernhard, a three-time world duathlon champion, and David Allemann, a former CMO of Swiss furniture brand Vitra, with the aim to merge athleticism with design.
The brand claims that the patented cloud system reduces athletes' heart rates and blood lactate levels, as found in an independent study by the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.
Athletes including Ironman world champion Frederik Van Lierde and 2012 Olympic triathlon gold medalist Nicola Spirig have worn the shoes in competitive races.
The Dezeen competition winner will be one of the first to access new The Cloud Edge, which will be available for purchase on On's website from 19 April 2018 at a cost of $149.99 (£105.16).
Competition closes 18 April 2018.
The winner will be selected at random and notified by email, and their name will be published at the top of this page.
