Patricia Urquiola has added a series of tables with interchangeable colourful tops and bases, to her Roll collection for Spanish outdoor furniture brand Kettal.
Described by the brand as "postmodernist", the tables feature circular tops that are supported by chunky lacquered aluminium stems mounted on cylindrical blocks of concrete.
Available in two different sizes, customers can choose from 30 colours of aluminium top and six different colours of powder-coated aluminium top as well as the teak and marble options.
The lacquered aluminium stems also come in 30 colours, so it is possible to create tables in over 1,000 material and colour combinations.
"The overall design is characterised by an approach even more artistic and conceptual than classic rationalism," said the brand.
"The design of these new side tables could be considered postmodernist, given its basic yet unexpected forms."
Urquiola, who started working with the brand in 2010, debuted her Roll collection back in 2015 with a lounge and dining chair distinguished by their cylindrical back rest cushions that are strapped to steel frames.
The Roll tables were debuted this year at the Salone del Mobile during Milan design week.
"The tables are built following a graphic pattern, which appears in all of the collection's pieces, a pattern in which various materials – metals, concrete and wood – are joined together in unique and unusual ways," explained Kettal.
"It is a colourful and joyful collection, setting it apart from Kettal’s other contemporary collections."
Elsewhere during Milan design week, Patricia Urquiola was one of eight designers to revamp Vogue Italia's head offices in Milan, for an exhibition called Life In Vogue.
The Spanish designer created two room interiors both intended to reflect the role of work in the modern world. Blue tones were used throughout, paired with retro-style furniture pieces.
