Dezeen Awards 2018 design shortlist showcases the hottest new products and concepts

Today we're revealing the design shortlist for Dezeen Awards, including robotic furniture that reconfigures your home, a sofa that can be flat-packed and ceramics made from metal waste.

The Dezeen Awards design shortlist is made up of 43 projects in eight categories, spanning furniture, lighting, digital, transport and more.

Designers and studios that made the list include Barber and Osgerby, Daan Roosegaarde, Formafantasma, Fuseproject, Heatherwick Studio and Layer.

They feature alongside projects such as vases made from blown plastic pipes, a foldable scooter, wearable memos and clothes that grow with your child.

Ignorance is Bliss, a ceramics project by Agne Kucerenkaite that uses metal waste, is shortlisted in the homeware design category

Benjamin Hubert, Paul Priestman, Mette Hay, Lee Broom and Bec Brittain were among the judges for the design shortlist, which was whittled down from a longlist of 171 projects.

Projects were assessed on whether they were beautiful, innovative, and beneficial to people and planet.

The winner of each category will be announced in a ceremony on 27 November and all eight winners will go on to compete for the title design project of the year.

The furniture shortlist includes Friction, a reconfigurable table by Heatherwick Studio
