Dezeen promotion: XTEN Architecture has utilised Vitrocsa's TH+ slider windows in the design of a Los Angeles mansion, with interiors designed by Lenny Kravitz.
The house in Los Angeles, California, has been designed with by local practice XTEN Architecture to take advantage of its prominent hillside location overlooking the city.
XTEN Architecture designed the house with full-height windows in both the main living space and its bedrooms to give uninterrupted views of Los Angeles and the Sunset Strip.
"The Stanley house carefully balances open and closed spaces. The house unfolds along the edge of the hill. We wanted to use a glazing system that is elegant and highly functional," explained XTEN Architecture's president, Monika Haefelfinger, and principal architect Scott Utterstrom.
"Vitrocsa's minimal frames helped us to create interior and exterior spaces that flow seamlessly into the glorious vistas of the city beyond."
The house's numerous sliding glass doors are made from aluminium-framed panels that roll back and fourth on a stainless steel bearing system.
While the windows can be slid back manually, some panels have been motorised so that inhabitants can open up rooms to the outdoors by simply pressing a button.
The sliding door are part of Vitrocsa's TH+ range, which enables thermal insulation by fabricating windows with 32 or 44 millimetre double or triple glazing.
"Sustainability has become increasingly important over the last decade," said Haefelfinger and Utterstrom. "The TH+ sliders not only allow for low energy consumption, they also allow the owner to open all doors with a simple push of a button. As a result, cross ventilation and natural cooling can be easily achieved."
American singer Lenny Kravitz – who established an eponymous design company in 2003 – was responsible for developing the home's interiors.
Rooms have largely been finished in a neutral colour scheme, complemented by beige-hued soft furnishings and geometric pattern rugs.
Vitrocsa's windows have previously been used by Australian studio SJB to separate the living spaces of a Sydney apartment from a private roof garden. The brand have also developed a Turnable Corner system that allows full-height windows to slide around the corners of homes.
