Dezeen's founder Marcus Fairs joined management consultancy McKinsey & Company in New York to launch its report The Business Value of Design, which demonstrates how design can help businesses thrive.
Fairs spoke to McKinsey partners Ben Sheppard and John Edson, alongside Airbnb director of design Jenny Arden, Local Projects creative director Elvira Barriga and WeWork senior design director Adam Koogler about how design can drive success in business.
The Business Value of Design is an in-depth study by McKinsey that analyses the design practices of 300 different companies.
Sheppard, who introduced the report, designed and built the world's lowest cost deep-sea camera before joining McKinsey.
Edson, who works with Sheppard at McKinsey, is co-founder of industrial design firm Lunar, and has developed products for companies including InFocus, Motorola and Philips.
As creative director at exhibition and media design studio Local Projects, Barriga leads projects that combine design, architecture, storytelling and technology, such as the London Mithraeum and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Ardern was the design lead for Google's Self-Driving Car Project (now Waymo) and helped to develop YouTube TV before joining Airbnb.
Koolger worked for firms such as SHoP Architects and Ennead before joining WeWork, and has taught courses in architecture and interior design at the Pratt Institute and New York Institute of Technology.
