Judges and VIPs joined architects and designers from around the world to celebrate the unveiling of all 33 winners of the inaugural Dezeen Awards, which took place in a dazzling ceremony in London last week.
Architects from Foster + Partners, Dorte Mandrup and David Chipperfield Architects Berlin joined designers such as Daan Roosegaarde and Lee Broom to find out who won this year's 33 Dezeen Awards.
Dezeen welcomed industry-leading names, including Thomas Heatherwick, Ilse Crawford and Tom Dixon at the star-studded event, hosted by Sir Lenny Henry, as well as Dezeen Awards 2018 judges John Pawson, Astrid Klein, India Mahdavi, Sam Jacob, Afrofiti Krassa, David Kohn, Camille Walala and Niall McLaughlin.
The ceremony took place in a central London art gallery, where architect and creative director of the event, Sarah Izod, conjured an eerie aesthetic, taking inspiration from the children's book Where the Wild Things Are.
Stilt walkers dressed in long white gowns wandered among a tree installation, which stood at the centre of the show, with hanging ribbons draping over guests as they explored the magical setting, listening to a live steel band.
The Dezeen Awards 2018 trophies were made using London clay and designed by Atelier NL, which won two categories including designer of the year. Also receiving these superior awards were fellow Dutch studios, Envisions, which won emerging designer of the year, and i29, which was named interior designer of the year. Leading the way for architecture was Swiss practice Christ & Gantenbein, named architect of the year.
The event's visuals and booklet were designed by Micha Weidmann Studio, with the original films shot by photographer Leon Chew. Music for the evening was curated by Peter Adjaye.
Winners were announced on the night, with the winners for architecture project of the year, interior project of the year and design project of the year closing the ceremony.
