Dezeen promotion: the first 20 speakers have been announced for the Design Indaba conference in Cape Town next month, including architectural designer John Pawson and The Handmaid's Tale costume designer Ane Crabtree.
As one of the world's leading design conferences, the three-day-long Design Indaba brings together leading creatives from the worlds of film, fashion, architecture, graphics, technology and industrial design.
Ane Crabtree, also known for her work on The Sopranos and Westworld, will discuss how she creates visually striking costumes for television.
London-based Pawson will present his architectural and interiors projects, which include the Design Museum in London, while New York-based architect Annabelle Selldorf will discuss her community-focused approach to practice.
Other designers speaking this year include Markus Kayser, who has established himself as a design and tech specialist following the success of his graduate project The Solar Sinter back in 2011, and Dave Hakkens, whose work centres around machines that recycle plastic.
Designer and sound designer Yuri Suzuki, who is now a partner at Pentagram, will present his work too, along with Hannah Barry, the driving force behind the popular Bold Tendencies project in Peckham, south London.
The lineup also includes afrofuturist filmmaker Wanuri Kahui from Kenya, who produced the films From A Whisper and Rafiki, South African musician Thandiswa Mazwai, designer Dong-Ping Wong and critic Alice Rawsthorn.
Design Indaba 2019 takes place at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town from 27 February to 1 March.
Tickets are available to book online. For more information, visit the Design Indaba website.
