Dezeen discussed the future of urban spaces with furniture brand Vestre, design studio Front and landscape architect Thorbjörn Andersson in this talk filmed by Dezeen at Stockholm Design Week.
Dezeen's editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs spoke to Vestre CEO Jan Christian Vestre, Front co-founders Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist, and landscape architect Thorbjörn Andersson about the role that urban furniture can play in creating an atmosphere of social cohesion in cities and bringing diverse groups of people together.
The talk coincided with the launch of the Folk collection of outdoor furniture, a collaboration between Vestre and Front. The collection features park benches, rubbish bins and bicycle parking racks made of aluminium and Swedish pine.
Lagerkvist and Lindgren are the co-founders of Swedish design studio Front. Its work includes a collection of sleeping animals for Vitra crafted from ceramics and wool and a rug that can be folded up to form a pouf, and has been exhibited at MoMA, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Centre Pompidou.
Andersson is a landscape architect from Sweden best known for his work planning and designing public spaces at Sweco Architects. His is also founder and editor of the landscape architecture journal Utblick Landskap, and is currently professor at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Ultuna.
