Urban house, residential rebirth and cultural building are among the five new categories architects can enter now for Dezeen Awards 2019.
Dezeen Awards 2019 is open to enter until 30 May, with discounts of up to 25 per cent available until 29 March.
The year's edition is expanded to include 10 architecture categories, recognising even more of the world's best building projects.
Judges will score projects according to how beautiful, innovative and beneficial they are for both people and the environment.
Urban house
The urban house category covers any single or conjoined private residence in a built-up setting, from small towns to major cities.
Rural house
Another category relating to privates house, this category covers any individual or conjoined dwelling in a low-density or non-urban setting, from small villages to open countryside.
Civic building
This category applies any project used by the public or that serves the community. This includes schools, university buildings, hospitals, medical centres, infrastructure and stations.
Cultural building
The cultural building category is for any project where people go to experience culture. This covers museums, art galleries, religious buildings, visitor centres, libraries, theatres, concert halls, stadiums, arenas and all other entertainment venues.
Residential rebirth project
Dezeen Awards 2019 also sees the introduction of a residential rebirth category, which is for any refurbishment, renovation or extension of an existing residential building.
Studio categories
Architects can also enter either the Architect of the Year, or the Emerging Architect of the Year categories, as well as the categories that remain unchanged from last year: housing project, business building, hospitality building, small building and rebirth project.
