Dezeen promotion: Czech design brand Bomma has released a collection of hand-blown crystal lighting designed by Swiss studio Big-Game.
Called Blimp, the crystal lighting collection features three sizes of pendant lamps: a table lamp, a floor lamp and a wall or ceiling light.
On show at Milan design week, which takes place this year between 8 and 14 April, the lighting series is described by Bomma as "monumental and airy". It has a wavy silhouette that is meant to resemble a cloud or a blimp airship.
"This stunning massive crystal cloud floats in space with the lightness of a zeppelin," said Bomma.
The lighting series was handblown by Bomma's glassmakers. It is available in either clear or an amber shade.
"Amber colour brings a warm ambient feeling into any interior," explained the brand. "To emphasise the extraordinary quality of Czech crystal, Blimp comes also in a pure crystal version."
The largest item in the collection is the Blimp pendant lamp that stands at one metre tall.
"As individual pieces are nearly one metre high, the production of this monumental lighting is literally on the edge of both technical and human possibilities," said Bomma.
"This gentle giant is a testament to human ingenuity and craftsmanship."
Bomma will also present its Pebbles, Lens and Pendulum lighting collections at Milan design week.
The Pendulum light by Studio deFORMÂ features a series of glass globes that are held by individual cords but slot into one another to create a larger lighting feature.
It is designed to look like Newton's cradle, a device made of a series of swinging spheres, which demonstrates ideas of momentum and energy.
"Physics, aesthetics and craft all come together to remind us that everything is in perpetual motion," said the brand.
The Lens collection is made up of lens-shaped glass elements held together by sophisticated metal parts and hung from individual cords.
"Light refracted through a lens is the fundamental principle of optics," said Bomma. "Here, two lenses harmoniously encapsulate their interior source, playing a symphony of lights."
The Pebbles collection by Boris Klimek resembles a string of colourful beads of assorted shapes and sizes, connected through a single, tubular light source.
Milan design week takes place between 9 and 14 April 2019. Also on show is a 150-piece lifestyle collection by Hong Kong architect André Fu and a micro home that can be configured into 20 different layouts.
