Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni spoke to Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs about his career and his designs for B&B Italia in this talk hosted with the Italian furniture brand.
The talk took place at B&B Italia's Madison Avenue showroom during NYCxDesign. Fairs spoke to Lissoni about his storied career, which has encompassed architecture, interior design and product design for over 30 years.
Amongst the topics discussed was Lissoni's love of the High Line and criticism of Hudson Yards. He also shared his opinions on young designers today and New York's latest towers. Lissoni then discussed his projects in Beijing and Shangai, and what it is like to work in China.
During the talk, he presented his new modular Dock sofa system for B&B Italia, which the brand launched earlier this year at its booth at Salone Del Mobile in Milan.
Lissoni founded his interdisciplinary practice Lissoni Associati in 1986, a year after completing his training as an architect. He has become better known for his product design and interiors in recent years, and has worked for a host of leading brands including Cappellini, Flos and Kartell as well as B&B Italia.
B&B Italia was founded by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli in 1966. The brand is known for manufacturing modern pieces of furniture using industrial processes. It has collaborated with numerous designers including Mario Bellini, Antonio Citterio, Zaha Hadid and Patricia Urquiola.
The company is based in Novedrate in Italy's Como province, in a building designed by architects Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano in 1972.
Dezeen has hosted and streamed panel discussions with designers all around the world, with recent examples including a talk at the Design Museum that explored the differences between Bauhaus and Danish design and a lecture by Neri&Hu at Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair 2019.
