In our latest competition, we're offering readers the chance to win a two-day stay at Samling Hotel, located at the heart of the Lake District in England.
This competition has now closed. Congratulations to the winner, who is Sandra Hall from Sheffield, UK.
Explorers and adventurers will be entertained by hiking in the mountains, while those looking to relax can enjoy the landscape from the serenity of the hotel.
Along with their stay, one winner and their guest will receive a two-day package experience, which will include a private cruise, adventures at the region's oldest slate mine and an off-road driving course.
As part of the stay visitors will be chauffeur driven through Honister Pass to the slate mine by Lakeside Travel, which was the source of the slate used by Junya Ishigami for the Serpentine Pavilion this year.
At the pass the guests will follow the historical passage of the miners, high into the peak of Fleetwith Pike at an elevation of 648 metres.
Ladders along the cliff edge, exhilarating net crossings and vertical climbs standing at twice the height of London's Shard await established adventurers if opting for the alternative Via Ferrata Xtreme route.
The second experience included in the prize will take the winner on a luxury motorboat on Windermere lake – England's longest lake at nearly 11 miles long. For two hours, the VIP Lake Cruise team will steer the winner through the scenery.
For the third adventure expert instructors from CBA Events guide off-road enthusiasts and novices alike to drive a Land Rover Defender across trails within the expansive private estate and landscape available at the Lake District.
The hotel sits at the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, elevated 73.1 metres (240 feet) above the lake.
"Sitting at the centre of the national park, it is the ideal location to explore this beautiful part of England," said the hotel. "Soothe any aching muscles in the hot tub with a view, before enjoying a drink on the terrace, and dining at leisure."
In the main house, three out of the five bedrooms available offer elevated views over the lake. All are fitted with super-king beds, walk-in showers and huge bathtubs within marble-clad bathrooms to accommodate to being "a sumptuous home away from home".
Located beside the historic Georgian gothic revival house, the glass-walled restaurant overlooks Windermere Lake and towards Coniston mountains, with additional terrace seating to absorb the views whilst dining outdoors.
Looking to the natural surroundings, executive head chef Robby Jenks has cultivated menus based on local and UK ingredients. Dishes are paired with the award-winning wine selection, which is listed on 500 of the best from hotels around the world.
Two converted outbuildings adjacent to the Georgian house contain rooms that overlook the lake.
Six additional guest rooms located behind the outbuilding are raised into the fell slope, enabling uninterrupted lake views. From the two corner rooms, guests are able to also look out to the woodland.
Accent colours differ within each suite from navy-blue hues, pastel pink, slate grey and forest green, and are designed to reflect the calm mood and serenity to be experienced by the guests.
The winner and their guest will be invited to a two-hour private chartered cruise, day pass and high adventure at Honister Slate Mine, one hour of 4x4 off-road and course driving, with a chauffeur service and lake tour during their two-night stay.
Competition closes 2 October 2019. One winner will be selected at random and notified by email, and his or her name will be published at the top of this page. Terms and conditions apply. Travel not included.
