In this Dezeen movie, jury members discuss the winners of the Samsung Mobile Design Competition wallpaper category, which were revealed last month at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Jose, California.
Finnish designer Kalle Järvenpää was awarded first place for his Garden of Galaxy design, a personalised flower generated by an algorithm that enables every Samsung Galaxy user the chance to grow a virtual garden on their device.
Second place went to Portuguese designer Andre Cardoso, who created a colourful wallpaper design called Approachability of Galaxy that would change colour when multiple devices are in close proximity in one another.
Malaysian designer Guan Hong Yeoh won third place for Blossom of Galaxy, a colourful abstract pattern inspired by nature, which would change with the time of day.

The Samsung Mobile Design Competition aimed to explore the future of Samsung Galaxy devices by inviting young designers and design students to submit proposals for new wallpaper designs. Alongside the wallpaper category, there was also a category seeking new mobile accessory designs for Samsung Galaxy devices.
The results were announced at the Samsung Developer Conference, an annual event organised by Samsung in California, which brings together thousands of developers and creators who are working with new and emerging technologies.
Artworks and mockups of the top five wallpaper and mobile accessory designs were on display at the event, which allows visitors to receive exclusive access to Samsung's latest ideas – spanning mobile devices and smart technologies. The top three designers in each competition category also attended to explain their concepts and promote their work to conference visitors.
The top five designs and the overall winners in each category were selected by a jury including designers Stefan Scholten and Paul Austin, as well as executives from Samsung's IT and mobile communications division and Dezeen's editor-at-large Amy Frearson.
This movie was filmed by Dezeen for Samsung in London and San Jose.
