Spelk surface collection offers "contradictory sensory experience"
Orla Lawn introduces Spelk, a series of smooth and splintered architectural surfaces, as part of VDF's collaboration with Ventura Projects.
Exhibitor: Orla Lawn
Project title: Spelk
Orla Lawn is a product designer specialising in surface design that combines traditional craft techniques with modern engineered materials.
Lawn is showcasing Spelk, a collection of decorative wooden surfaces, during the VDF x Ventura Projects collaboration.
Spelk is designed for use as an architectural surface, and is characterised by a rough splintered appearance that is soft to touch. This offers "a contradictory sensory experience".
Each panel is made using Oriented Strand Board, a type of engineered wood, which she modifies using a unique handcrafted finishing technique that enhances its natural qualities. It is an unpredictable process meaning that no two pieces the same.
