Dezeen Showroom: Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub modelled the Striad lounge chair for Herman Miller on the "construction of high-performance ski boots".
The Striad lounge chair, which is available with a matching ottoman, was developed by Jehs and Laub to offer a casual seating option for work environments that is also suited to domestic settings.
It is composed of a series of layers that each play a distinct role, taking cues from the form of a ski boot. For example, the outermost layer is a rigid shell that provides stability, while the final inner layer is composed of foam cushions to offer support and "pliable comfort".
"Comfort is the primary criteria behind the Striad Lounge Chair and Ottoman, the first contribution to the Herman Miller Collection by designers Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub of Stuttgart-based Jehs+Laub," explained the brand.
"Inspired by the construction of high-performance ski boots, Stuttgart-based designers Markus Jehs and Jürgen Laub designed the Striad Lounge Chair and Ottoman in layers to deliver a premium experience of comfort."
To ensure Striad is suited to a multitude of workspaces, it is available with either a low-, mid- and high-back, and three different material finishes. The low- and mid-back models are intended for spaces dedicated to casual collaboration in an open space, while the high-back chair is meant to offer visual privacy and act as a cocoon for its user.
The Striad lounge chair can also be fitted with a fixed or swivelling four-legged base available in three colours.
