Dezeen's Virtual Design Festival teamed up with Shanghai furniture brand Stellar Works on a panel discussion with designers Neri&Hu and Space Copenhagen, who talked about merging Eastern and Western design traditions.
Dezeen's founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs will spoke to a panel featuring the founder and CEO of Stellar Works, Yuichiro Hori, co-founders of Shanghai design studio Neri&Hu Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, and the founders behind Danish design studio Space Copenhagen, Peter Bundgaard Rützou and Signe Bindslev Henriksen.
The panel explored the story behind the Stellar Works brand, and its mission to champion a new aesthetic by merging Eastern and Western design practices and traditions through its collaboration with a catalogue of international designers.
Stellar Works was founded by Hori in 2012 and has since grown into an international brand with offices in China, the UK, France, Australia, Japan and the US.
Its design philosophy looks to translate the forms, styles and motifs found in Eastern design aesthetics through the lens of contemporary European design.
Besides Neri&Hu and Space Copenhagen, the brand has previously collaborated with design firms such as OEO Studio, Nendo and Yabu Pushelberg on furniture collections, as well as a series of reissues of design classics together with Jen Risom and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
Neri&Hu is a Shanghai-based architecture and design firm that specialises in building design and retail interiors, as well as furniture and lighting.
Overseeing the creative direction for Stellar Works, Neri&Hu has designed several ranges for the brand including a collection of art-deco inspired furniture in 2018 and a lightweight stackable chair this year.
Bindslev Henriksen and Bundgaard Rützou founded their design studio Space Copenhagen in 2005 and has since completed projects such as a re-design of Arne Jacobsen's iconic Royal Hotel in the Danish capital as well as several furniture collections for Stellar Works including a collection of walnut, ash and leather furniture launched during Design Shanghai in 2019.
