Xandra van der Eijk spoke to Dezeen in a live Screentime conversation sponsored by Philips TV & Sound as part of Virtual Design Festival.
The Dutch artist and designer discussed her work with Dezeen's founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs.
Van der Eijk is an alumna of the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, the Netherlands, where she obtained a degree in graphic design and an interdisciplinary masters in art-science.
Her work explores the intersection of design and ecological issues, taking what Van der Eijk refers to as an "anti-anthropocentric" approach.
Previous projects include an installation comprising a series of 3D-printed models of the foot of a receding glacier in Switzerland. The exhibit attempted to explore feelings of "ecological grief".
In 2018, Van der Eijk poured household chemicals onto metal objects for an installation that aimed to demonstrate how chemical waste dumping is affecting the earth.
This conversation is sponsored by Philips TV & Sound and is part of our Screentime series for Virtual Design Festival, which features interviews with designers including Teresa van Dongen, Theodora Alfredsdottir and Ini Archibong.
Previous sessions have included Marjan van Aubel from the Netherlands, Shahar Livne from Israel and Adam Nathaniel Furman from the UK.
