Dezeen promotion: Danish furniture brand Fritz Hansen has introduced 16 new colours to three of the chairs in its iconic Arne Jacobsen-designed seating range.
Launched in collaboration with design curator and gallerist Carla Sozzani, the new colours include a dusty pink hue, deep green, canary yellow and a light blue shade.
These colours, which are "united by a warm tone", have been applied to the brand's Series 7, Ant and Grand Prix chair designed by Danish architect and designer Jacobsen.
According to Fritz Hansen, these refreshed versions of the well-recognised plywood chair make it "even more elaborate" than before.
Fritz Hansen and Sozzani hope the fresh colours will grant buyers more "individual expression" when choosing them for their interior spaces.
"The Arne Jacobsen stacking chairs represents the core of the Fritz Hansen design DNA," said the brand.
"Their design is emotional and unique, and they become even more elaborate when they are coloured. We call this discovery 'A Sense of Colour'."
The chair comes in 16 new colours and seven base options, allowing for "endless possibilities" for the range.
"We began the colour selection on this project by having workshops with Carla Sozzani at her studio where we, from a vast number of colours, curated a unique palette," explained Christian Andresen, Fritz Hansen's head of design.
"One of the primary goals was to create a collection united by a warm tone, a red thread so to speak," she added. "This was achieved by every colour having a splash of red."
"From the dark green and blue of shifting waves and sky, to the pinks and ochres of small shells and a fading seashore in twilight, the palette came naturally as I explored the essence of daylight and its partner: night, to capture the essence of our shared colour harmonies," added Sozzani.
"Any interactions with light and the confrontation of light with darkness causes a deep emotion, and the magnet that draws these two together is colour."
Each of the tones were chosen to complement one another, and offer a "subtle warmth" to the chair design they are applied to.
Colours include Paradise Orange, Venetian Red, Black, Deep Clay, Light Beige, White, Cream, Pale Rose, Wild Rose, Midnight Blue, Lavender Blue, Dusk Blue, True Yellow, Burnt Yellow, Evergreen and Olive Green.
The three chair designs in the A Sense of Colour palette are now available to buy in-store.
Founded in Denmark in 1872, Fritz Hansen has collaborated with a host of well-known designers including Cecilie Manz, Hans J. Wegner and Piero Lissoni, and its designs are sold in more than 85 countries.
