Dezeen Showroom: Danish studio Norm Architects has created the N-DC01 dining chair for Japanese furniture manufacturer Karimoku as a hybrid between the two countries' design aesthetics.
The piece was workshopped together with the craftsmen in Karimoku's factories, resulting in a simple oak chair that is available in a variety of upholstery options.
N-DC01's design combines both existing and updated parts from the company's factories.
"Like branches of a tree, each element of the chair almost flows or grows from the others, making the chair both strong and elegant in its nature," Norm Architects designer Frederik Alexander Werner said.
"Smooth curves and transitions underline the craftsmanship and 'high-tech and high touch' philosophy of Karimoku."
The brand aims to create the "ideal balance" between the man-made and machine-made, resulting in highly crafted industrial pieces that evoke the Japanese sense of beauty.
Though the N-DC01 chair's design is simple, it has a "warm and welcoming feel to it," Werner said.
