Dezeen Showroom: Spanish brand Expormim has remixed its rattan Huma armchair by Mario Ruiz, which now comes in ten different variations suitable for the home or office.
While the characteristic curved shell of the Huma chair was retained, its base was reimagined in a number of different ways including as a swivel chair.
This reinvention was inspired by Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, who is said to have invented the swivel chair in 1775 by attaching an English-style Windsor chair to a central iron spindle.
Expormim's expanded Huma range also comes with casters and solid steel or beech wood legs.
The chair is available with its original rattan backrest or padded with moulded polyurethane foam over steel.
According to Ruiz, all versions of Huma share a modern look and prioritise comfort.
"Huma armchair is a project trying to preserve the classic philosophy of rattan production process while engaging in a search for greater comfort through the use of flexible ribs in its shell-shaped backrest and its upholstered seat," said the designer.
