The winners of the Dezeen Awards 2021 design categories were announced today in a special show hosted by poet and broadcaster LionHeart and experiential designer and filmmaker Nelly Ben Hayoun.
The 25-minute awards show revealed the winners of the 11 project categories, before naming the best design project of the year.
Today's show is the third of six programmes that will reveal all 50 Dezeen Awards 2021 winners. The architecture winners were announced Monday 22 November and yesterday's show named the interiors winners.
The new sustainability and media categories will be revealed tomorrow and the studio winners will be unveiled in the final show on Friday 26 November.
Kim Colin says the judging criteria has "very different meanings to us all"
In a message specially recorded for today's show, Dezeen Awards judge Kim Colin of Industrial Facility said "Thank you to Dezeen for inviting me to be a judge in the fourth annual Dezeen Awards."
"I’d like to congratulate all the entrants and the winners this year." She added: "There were 4,700 entries from 86 countries; really remarkable."
Colin explained: "The considerations for judging the categories were: was the project beautiful, was it innovative and is it beneficial."
"In this year of 2021, of course, these terms have very different meanings to us all and I think the results will show our considerations."
Winners selected by master jury
The winners were decided by a master jury formed by Chrissa Amuah of London-based AMWA Designs, Cape Town-based Lukhanyo Mdingi, Jane Withers Studio founder Withers, Eindhoven-based Shahar Livne and Dutch designer Richard Hutten.
The panel of judges remotely reviewed all shortlisted projects and ratified the winners using Dezeen Awards' trio of judging criteria that call for entries that are beautiful, innovative and beneficial.
