Dezeen promotion: Netherlands-based yacht manufacturer KM Yachtbuilders has launched the Bestevaer 53 M/Y, a motor yacht with a minimalist design and an "understated elegance".
The craft is based on the same design principles of the illustrious Bestevaer expedition sailing yachts and is designed to offer users comfort in all weather conditions.
"It is quite a radical design statement in a world of slick bling look-alike motor yachts," KM Yachtbuilders said.
"We prefer our yachts to show the bare aluminium because aluminium is such an extraordinary material. It is lightweight, strong, maintenance-free and environmentally friendly."
The yacht is approximately 16 metres in length and 4.97 metres in the beam – the ship's widest length.
"The only maintenance an unpainted aluminium hull needs is regular rinsing with water, which is partly why aluminium yachts retain their sales value even after decades of intensive use," added the brand.
Bestevaer 53 M/Y's interiors are designed by Christien Starkenburg, founder of Studio Slow, and made from natural materials including Danish wool by Kvadrat and brushed oak.
The yacht contains two cabins with en-suite bathrooms: a primary bedroom with a double bed and another with two single beds.
"The Bestevaer 53 M/Y is a one-of-a-kind motor yacht that perfectly blends functionalist design with understated elegance," said KM Yachtbuilders.
Inside, Bestevaer 53 M/Y also features a 49-inch flatscreen TV and a luxury kitchen equipped with an electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. The cabins also have central heating, air-conditioning, a dryer and storage space.
"This motor yacht combines sustainable aesthetics with quality and safety," said the brand. "The Bestevaer 53 M/Y conveys the look of vintage motor yachts, built with the knowledge and comfort of today."
The entire yacht is made by KM Yachtbuilders at its Makkum shipyard and was nominated for the 2021 European Powerboat of the Year Award.
