Dezeen Showroom: British lighting brand Astro has released Kuro, its first portable, solar-powered outdoor lantern, which has a minimal look designed to suit any style of decor.
With a hidden LED light that focuses light downwards from its top, the Kuro lantern resembles the shape of a traditional lantern but with a pared-back, contemporary form.
Its textured black finish is weatherproof, so the lantern can be placed outdoors as a decorative feature – and also to recharge through its integrated solar panels.
Kuro also has a USB charging option, so it can be used wholly indoors if preferred.
The lantern has three brightness settings, and the downwards-pointed LED eliminates unnecessary light pollution, allowing better views of the night sky.
Kuro is available in two different sizes: 50 and 30 centimetres tall.
