Stockholm Design and Architecture Talks explore sustainability and the metaverse

Promotion: Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair is hosting a series of digital talks this week, with speakers including architect and activist Duncan Baker-Brown, digital artist Andrés Reisinger and materials expert Caroline Till.

Stockholm Design and Architecture Talks features an extensive programme of interviews, tours and panel discussions exploring the theme Being a Game Changer.

With the furniture fair postponed until September 2022, the talks will be hosted online only, from 8 to 10 February, to coincide with Stockholm Design Week.

Dezeen's editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs will host several of the discussions, while other moderators will include environmental design writer Katie Treggiden and television presenter Li Pamp.

Programme highlights include a session called Design for the Metaverse, featuring contributions from Barcelona-based Reisinger, Warpin Media CEO Emma Ridderstad and metaverse designer Laura Olin.

New York-based curator Beatrice Galilee will join Fairs and Baker-Brown for a panel exploring the challenges of building sustainable cities.

Treggiden will host a discussion called On Mending and Repair, where Till will be joined by maker Bridget Harvey and designer and artist Hans Tan.

The programme also includes online studios tours with Swedish designers Front and Åke Axelsson, and an interview with Mexico-based designer Fabien Cappello.

The event is hosted by Hanna Nova Beatrice, project area manager for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Stockholm Design Week and editor-in-chief of The New Era, and Konrad Olsson of Scandinavian Mind.

"We want to spark debate and instigate collaborations over the genres," said Nova Beatrice.

"We must help each other and put competition aside in order to find the best solutions going forward."

Stockholm Design and Architecture Talks will be broadcast from 8 to 10 February, but all sessions will be available to watch on demand until 11 March.
