Dezeen Showroom: to coincide with Global Recycling Day, furniture brand LifestyleGarden has launched Nassau, a collection of outdoor seating and tables made of plastic sourced from ethical recycling company Plastic Bank.

The Nassau collection pairs colourful recycled plastic tabletops and seat shells with FSC-certified hardwood legs.

The furniture is made using recycled "Social Plastic" from Plastic Bank, a company that aims to fight plastic pollution in the ocean while also alleviating poverty in the coastal communities that collect it.

Collectors are paid bonuses for the materials they gather, helping them to buy basic necessities.

And Plastic Bank uses a blockchain platform that allows brand partners like LifestyleGarden to trace where their plastic came from and how their products are impacting communities.

The equivalent of 175 recycled bottles is contained in every Nassau chair, and LifestyleGarden says its commitment to working with Plastic Bank has kept the equivalent of 11 million plastic bottles from reaching the oceans to date.

The Nassau collection is available in a palette of soft contemporary colours – peony pink, sage green, honey yellow and ecru white. The table comes in a 70-centimetre and a 95-centimetre model, with timber or plastic tops.
