IDS Toronto and Open House Worldwide are among the architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this month.
Also opening and taking place in April is Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear, a retrospective menswear exhibition at the V&A, and an exhibition presented by artists Langlands & Bell that explores the roles of architecture and design in utopian futures.

Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne
6 April to 31 July, France
Taking place across the French city of Saint-Etienne, the twelfth edition of the International Design Biennale invites designers, researchers, enthusiasts to explore objects and installations across seven exhibitions.
The theme of this year's Biennale, Bifurcation, continues from its 2021 edition and is defined as "the division of something into two branches or parts" and the act of exploring alternative possibilities.
Alongside the seven exhibitions, 150 events take place across the month-long Biennale, probing visitors to collectively reflect on the different branches and manifestations of design.
IDS Toronto 2022
7 to 10 April, Canada
Interior Design Show Toronto returns to the Canadian city with a roster of products, furniture, talks and exhibitions from local and international designers and creatives.
It brings together new international and Canadian design, to explore the theme of New Futures. At the four-day event, over 100 industry experts, including representatives from Gensler, TikTok and leading design studios, will speak on a range of topics that explore design and the future.
Open House Worldwide Festival 2022
9 April, Online
The Open House Worldwide Festival 2022 is a virtual festival that includes a 12-hour live stream of live tours of residential architecture and leading housing models from cities in the Open House Worldwide network, including Lagos, New York, Taiwan, Vienna and London. The festival focuses on the future of housing and neighbourhood planning.
Live broadcast tours include a housing project on the Mediterranean coast and recreation of a 1930s home of a family of Italian immigrants. A number of debates will also take place, focusing on the impact of technology, politics and culture on homes.
Speakers and tour guides include the housing manager for Barcelona City Council, Javier Burón Cuadrado, architects Antonio Cortés Ferrando, Johannes Eggen and Farshid Moussavi and the director of the National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center in Taiwan, Shih-We Liu.
Architect@Work 2022
13 to 14 April, UK
Taking place at east London's Old Truman Brewery, Architect@Work is a trade show that showcases over 200 products and services from manufacturers and distributors for architects and interior designers.
The two-day trade event focuses on architectural innovation where visitors are invited to meet industry experts and market specialists.
A RIBA pop-up bookshop features at the event as well as a number of seminars and exhibitions including a project wall by World-architects that presents 40 projects by architects and designers.
Boston Design Week 2022
25 April to 8 May, US
Returning for its ninth edition, Boston Design Week is a 14-day event combines both in-person and online events across Boston that explore this year's theme of Boston Rethinks Design.
With largely free-of-charge events, visitors can attend panel discussions, exhibitions, tours and lectures led by leading design professionals, institutions and non-profit organisations.
During Boston Design Week, its annual Design Week Awards will spotlight key designers across a range of different award categories while institutions such as the Museum of Fine Art are host to numerous exhibitions. Alongside these events, tours of the iconic residential project, Gropius House by Bauhaus designer Walter Gropius, provide visitors with glimpses into Boston's design history.
