Edaha chair by GamFratesi for Koyori

Dezeen Showroom: GamFratesi took inspiration from the shapes of branches and leaves to create the smoothly curved Edaha chair for Japanese brand Koyori.

The Edaha chair is made entirely from veneer wood, and GamFratesi aimed for it to both look industrialised and yet express the beauty of nature.

The Edaha chair is made of wood veneer

The design studio used the collaboration with Koyori, which celebrates Japanese craftsmanship, to explore the possibilities of wood and to reinterpret some of its own Danish design heritage.

Borrowing from forms in nature, the designers envisaged the veneer seat shell as a leaf supported by the "branches" of the chair's frame.

Its structure is inspired by a leaf and branches

"We wanted to create a structure that gently supported the suspended seat just like a leaf on a branch," said GamFratesi. "The project was an industrial challenge, a concept that would challenge materials and technologies."

The Edaha chair is available in natural oak or natural walnut woods, and the seat can be optionally upholstered.
