Promotion: this year's edition of Architect@Work will focus on the theme of air and architecture with a series of talks and an exhibition dedicated to exploring how we can improve air quality in the built environment.
The annual two-day trade event for architects and designers will be held at London's Truman Brewery on 13 and 14 April 2022.
Highlights from this year's talks programme include a panel discussion that will examine how biophilic design can help to create better interactions within workspaces.
Speakers will include Morris + Company director Joe Morris who will speak alongside CEO of AirRated, Francesca Brady; interior designer, Anouska Anquetil who runs Aterre; and Rachel Edwards, a strategist at Lendlease.
Architect Nile Bridgeman from Gatti Routh Rhodes and director of Marks Barfield Architects, Julia Barfield will explain how designers are using sophisticated engineering and new materials to better utilise the air space on top of buildings to create new homes and landscapes.
The ways that we can retrofit our cities to accommodate landscape will be discussed by associate at Sarah Wigglesworth Architects, Eleanor Brough; landscape architect from HTA, Katharina Erne; director at Simpson Studio, Joanna Simpson; and founder of Native Studio, Sanaa Shaikh.
Founding director of Studio Weave, Je Ahn; global creative director of FreeState, Adam Scott; and leader of the placemaking team at Croydon Council, Anisha Jogani will focus on how public space projects can enliven places, creating character and activity.
Director of MET Studio, Peter Karn; partner at Hollaway Studio, Guy Hollaway; and architect at AHMM, Zoe Adeline-Lindop will discuss how design can promote exercise when advances in digital technologies cause us to be more sedentary.
On display is a collection of materials curated by material consultancy MaterialDriven, which are designed to protect us from contaminated air, as well as those that actively purify and regenerate such as plant-based plastics and leathers that sequester carbon.
Also included are non-toxic bacterial colour solutions and pollution-based and pollution-absolving materials.
RIBA will open a pop-up bookshop and Open City's popular podcast the Londown will be recorded live from the event covering breaking stories in London's architecture and built environment.
"Did you know that every single product innovation on display at A@W London has first been thoroughly assessed by a jury of architects and interior designers?" said the organisers. "You are guaranteed an interesting visit."
Entry is free for trade visitors who can register online.
