The latest edition of our weekly Dezeen Agenda newsletter features Polyformer, an open-source recycling machine that can be used to turn PET bottles into filament for additive manufacturing. Subscribe to Dezeen Agenda now!
Developed by California-based industrial designer Reiten Cheng, Polyformer was designed to make it easier for independent makers to create products from repurposed waste materials instead of relying on virgin plastic.
The L-shaped gadget can be 3D printed using open-source instructions so that it can be used and adapted by others.
Other stories in this week's newsletter include the completion of Álvaro Siza's limestone-clad skyscraper in Manhattan, the first images of Thomas Heatherwick's Tree of Trees sculpture at Buckingham Palace and an opinion piece by Minneapolis architect James Garrett Jr, who writes: "The death of George Floyd has become a catalyst for social change and urban redevelopment."
