A Californian beachfront house and a cottage in Perth are among the homes in our latest lookbook, which features 10 bedrooms that open out onto balconies.
Balconies add an extra dimension to any home, providing bonus outdoor space while also making rooms feel much larger by coaxing in natural light.
In bedrooms, they can also create romantic spots from which to enjoy views of forests, hills, sea or streets, as shown by the 10 examples listed below.
This is the latest in our lookbooks series, which provides visual inspiration from Dezeen's archive. For more inspiration see previous lookbooks showcasing bedrooms with clever storage solutions, homes with outdoor terraces and interiors with glass-block walls.

Royal, USA, by William Kaven Architecture
US studio William Kaven Architecture added an expansive double-aspect balcony to this bedroom in a black house standing on the hillside of an Oregon forest.
The feature was a crucial part of the design idea, which firm partner Daniel Kaven explained was "to live among the trees."
AdH House, Mexico, by Francesc Rifé Studio
Black aluminium shutters allow the balcony of this bedroom, in a house in Mexico City designed by Spanish practice Francesc Rifé Studio, to be closed off for privacy when not in use.
That corresponds with the room's moody yet tranquil theme, with furniture from Italian brand Cassina in addition to custom pieces made by local designer Simon Hamui.

Ridgewood, USA, by Henry Hill and Framestudio
Glass walls flood this bedroom in a house near San Francisco with natural light, while a set of doors enable occupants to step outside for a better look at the surrounding Alamo hills.
The mid-century house was originally built by Bay Area architect Henry Hill and was renovated by design collective Framestudio with the intention of "creating a peaceful sanctuary, inspired by the natural surroundings on the other side of those big panes of glass," according to studio founder Chad DeWitt.

Marine, Australia, by David Barr Architects
A huge glazed panel set in a timber frame takes up almost an entire wall of this white-painted bedroom, in a cottage near Perth that was given a bright extension by David Barr Architects.
The panel can be slid back to grant access to a small outdoor terrace with views of the Indian Ocean.
Woorak House, Australia, by CM Studio
One section of the wall has been cut away in this bedroom to create a small corner balcony with views of the surrounding Sydney coastline.
CM Studio filled the gap with glazed sliding doors that can be pushed back to open up the space to the landscape, while gauzy white curtains combine with pale limestone flooring and the pitched ceiling's white-painted beams to elicit an airy, Mediterranean feel.
