Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Arper has launched the modular Shaal sofa, designed by Doshi Levien with plush cushioning that brings "inviting tactility and warmth into any space".
Created by design studio Doshi Levien for use in residential or commercial settings, the Arper sofa comprises six core modules that can be combined into various angular and linear configurations.
"Structured and soft like a basket of pillows, Shaal wraps around us in a welcoming embrace, inviting tactility and warmth into any space," Arper said.
"Shaal brings together the heightened comfort of residential furnishings with the adaptability of modular construction."
Doshi Levien's design, which is available in two and three-seater forms, is composed of a rigid and high-backed shell that cradles the deep cushions.
These modular elements can be upholstered in either leather or textile, all of which are removable to ensure components can be separated for recycling at the end of the furniture's life.
"We definitely loved the challenge to play with the contrast between the sharp and crisp identity of Arper and the need for a soft, comfortable piece," said designer Nipa Doshi.
"We achieved this by creating a wrap-around shell that provides the defined outline inside which the soft welcoming cushions are embedded to provide comfort."
