Dezeen Showroom: Fredericia has launched a 75th anniversary edition of Børge Mogensen's classic J39 Mogensen chair, with a woven sedge grass seat meant to showcase the beauty of sustainable natural materials.

The J39 Mogensen anniversary chair celebrates 75 years since the launch of Mogensen's timeless design, which marries aspects of Mediterranean, Scandinavian and Shaker style.

The anniversary edition of the chair features a rush seat hand-woven from sedge grass. Sourced from a cultivated forest in southeast Asia, the grass continues to grow after cutting so there is no need for replanting, making it a highly sustainable choice.

Fredericia considers the update one that perfectly echoes the ethos of Mogensen, a Danish designer who advocated natural materials, sturdy construction and craftsmanship decades before sustainability became a global concern.

The sedge grass seat is added to the chair's traditional solid oak frame, which balances straight lines with soft curves.
