Dezeen Showroom: Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau has unveiled the Solaria high armchair, a chair with a distinctly high back created by designers Ludovica + Roberto Palomba.

Ludovica + Roberto Palomba collaborated with Poltrona Frau to create the Solaria high armchair in durable, weather-resistant materials, which make it suitable for outdoors.

The simple design features an unusually high backrest that can be customised with outdoor cushions for added comfort and support.

"The distinguishing feature is the high backrest, where the handmade rope weave creates transparent effects, playing with light and shadow," said Poltrona Frau.

Grey handmade woven cords are threaded into a cross-hatch pattern across the stainless steel chair's backrest and seat, adding subtle decoration. The cords also run along the arms of the chair.

Poltrona Frau suggests that the sofa can be used in both residential and contract settings such as gardens, terraces, verandas, patios, rooftops, poolside areas, and even yacht and ship decks.
