Dezeen Showroom: HIMACS has added a dozen new colourways to the Aurora edit of its Marmo collection, which features marble-effect surfacing informed by the luminosity of the northern lights.

The updated range of Aurora colours is distinguished by its semi-translucent finishes, intended to evoke the ethereal quality of the Aurora Borealis, also known as the northern lights.

Among the subtle new shades is the crystalline Aurora Frost as well as Calacatta Luna, which is characterised by its hazy grey veining.

"The tones echo the fluidity of the sky and its natural wonders, with semi-translucent effects that allow designers to experiment with a play on light, bringing natural beauty into their interior projects and clients' homes," said HIMACS manufacturer LX Hausys.

The 12 new colourways add to the nine existing shades in the Aurora edit, which was released in December.

Marmo is the marble-effect range of HIMACS' solid surfacing material, designed for high-traffic spaces in both residential and commercial projects from floors to kitchen counters.

The non-porous material is made of minerals and pigments mixed with acrylic so that it can be heated and moulded to create seamless surfaces.

While having a similar appearance to precious stone, the surfacing is more durable, flexible and easier to clean, according to HIMACS.

The material has previously been used in projects by architects and designers including Zaha Hadid, Marcel Wanders and David Chipperfield.
