The latest edition of our weekly Dezeen Agenda newsletter features an exclusive interview with Theaster Gates, the American artist behind this year's Serpentine Pavilion. Subscribe to Dezeen Agenda now!
Theaster Gates was the first solo artist commissioned to design the Serpentine Pavilion in its 22-year history. He told Dezeen that not being an architect allowed him to create a simple pavilion without "the burden of ambitious architecture".
"I wanted the structure to reflect a kind of simple builder's touch," he added.
Other stories in this week's newsletter include a roundup of eleven supertall skyscrapers that have changed the way we think about cities, news of a floating "Space Bubble" shield that could help fight climate change and an interview with Bartlett whistleblower Eleni Kyriacou, who says she feels "vindicated" by a report into an abusive culture at the London architecture school.
