Dezeen Showroom: created by designer Marcello Ziliani for Italian office furniture brand Mara, Icon is a collection of chairs that aims to combine the aesthetic appeal of domestic seating with the functionality of office chairs.

The Icon chair is available with fixed metal legs and as a swivel chair in versions with or without wheels.

The chair's backrest, which comes in low and high back options, is separate from the seat and curves round to form sloping armrests.

"Although Icon is a typical tub chair, it is not a mono shell. The seat and back have deliberately been made separately to guarantee independent movements," said Mara.

"A thin slit stands out between these two elements, giving a sense of lightness and an aerial effect to the upper part."

The chair's seat and back are cushioned with moulded foam to provide comfort, and the swivel versions of the chair can tilt backwards.

Designed to be long-lasting, the chair's upholstery can be removed and replaced to adapt to changing interiors.

Mara describes Icon as being "classic yet confident and bold character" and intended to suit residential, hospitality and office environments.
