Promotion: Scandinavian furniture brand Fredericia has collaborated with British design duo Barber Osgerby to launch the Plan Chair, which is defined by "craftsmanship and functionality".
The Plan Chair is part of Fredericia and Barber Osgerby's Plan Collection, which also includes the Plan Table.
The model is available in three different versions. It can either be fully upholstered, feature only an upholstered seat or be finished in plain plywood.
Designed for both domestic and commercial spaces, the chair is intended as versatile furniture that provides generous comfort despite its minimal footprint.
The fully upholstered iteration is designed to evoke the familiarity of a Danish side chair while offering a comfortable seat that is often found in larger chairs, according to its designers.
"This [version of the chair makes it] ideal for brasseries, flexible meeting scenarios, soft offices, and private homes," said Fredericia and Barber Osgerby.
The chair includes either a black or brushed steel base and the partially upholstered iteration allows for fabric and leather upholstery to be attached to the seat without glue.
"[This allows for] interior designers to connect the chair visually to any interior concept using the extensive Fredericia leather and fabric collection and customers' fabrics," said the designers.
Amply curved veneered plywood shells make up the plywood model, which features the same upright metal base as the upholstered chairs.
Fredericia and Barber Osgerby created this model to combine sturdy and enduring industrial materials with soft ergonomic shapes.
Each of the plywood chair's components is recyclable and was certified with the EU Ecolabel, which deems a product will meet high environmental standards throughout its life cycle.
"The Plan Collection shows how craftsmanship and functionality can ascend into a higher unity," explained the designers.
The furniture collection was launched during London Design Festival, which took place from 17 to 25 September 2022.
