Dezeen Showroom: Finnish design brand Poiat has launched the Aqueduct modular sofa, which combines a Scandinavian aesthetic with Italian influences.
The Aqueduct seating collection was designed by Poiat co-founders Timo Mikkonen and Antti Rouhunkoski with assistant designer Aleksandr Pukki, and named after the ancient Roman watercourse system, whose arches inspired the sofa's rounded armrests.
Its other distinctive design features include a trio of cushion sizes, a plinth base that can either sit flush with the floor or elevate the sofa to give it a floating appearance, and an optional marble or stone side table element.
Aqueduct can be configured in 24 possible ways, ranging from straight-lined two-and three-seater sofas that sit well in the home to larger ensembles incorporating corner elements and side tables that can fill commercial lounge areas.
It is the second sofa design from Poait, which awarded the Warmest Design of the Year at the Monocle Design Awards 2022 for Aqueduct's predecessor, Unio.
Aqueduct is available in a range of 37 fabrics from Dedar, Pierre Frey, Chivasso and Larsen, and the upholstery on the seats and backrests is detachable for easy care.
