Snøhetta revamped the postmodern 550 Madison skyscraper in New York, which was previously known as the AT&T building. The studio added a public garden as well as improving ventilation and elevation systems to the 647-foot-high granite-clad skyscraper.
Snøhetta worked with American architecture studio Gensler to renovate the lobby and New York design studio Rockwell Group carried out the interior design for the amenities level.
According to Snøhetta, the studio aimed to open up spaces at the base of the tower to be more public-facing.
"Our design for the new garden transforms the streets surrounding the iconic 550 Madison building into an accessible, lavishly vegetated, and highly visible public space," said Snøhetta partner Michelle Delk, who was responsible for the landscape architecture.
Other stories in the latest newsletter include Lina Ghotmeh's design for the 2023 Serpentine Pavilion, Herzog & de Meuron's plans to redevelop Liverpool Street station and Foster + Partner's plans for "London's largest timber building".
