Eight architecture and design events in January from Dezeen Events Guide

Fog Design+Art, DesignTO and Oslo Design Fair are among the architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this month.

Other events taking place in January include the trade shows IDS Toronto, CES, Heimtextil, Top Drawer S/S and Maison&Objet.

CES
5 to 8 January 2023, USA

CES is a four-day product design trade show presenting technologies and electronics from brands such as Google, Amazon, Sony, Hyundai, Bosch, LG, Microsoft, Lenovo, Nikon and Samsung.

The event will host more than 2,500 exhibitors across the sourcing and packaging, digital health, smart cities, sustainability and food industries, among others.

The trade show also holds a conference with more than 200 talks, with speakers including CEO of Delta Airlines, Ed Bastian; president and CEO of Nasdaq, Adena Friedman; CEO of AARP, Jo Ann Jenkins; and chairman of the board of management at BMW AG, Oliver Zipse.

The event takes place in Las Vegas across two venues, the Las Vegas Convention Centre and The Venetian Convention and Expo Centre.

Maison&Objet
19 January to 23 February 2023, France

Maison&Objet 2023 returns to the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in January, showcasing more than 2,200 global exhibitors.

The trade show will present furniture, textiles, bathroom and kitchenware, lighting, workplace products, stage design, fashion, decorative items and accessories.

The exhibition is divided into key areas: the Rising Talent section explores upcoming brands; What's New? focuses on the latest products and the Designer of the Year space is dedicated to the winner of Maison&Objet's award.

This year's event follows the theme Take Care, exploring a collective consciousness, inclusivity and kindness.

The winter edition will be followed by the trade show's second event of the year in September, which runs alongside Paris Design Week.

Heimtextil
10 to 13 January 2023, Germany

The world's largest contract and textile trade show takes place at Messe Frankfurt and will explore product launches, the latest trends and a circular economy.

Heimtextil hosts an exhibition, a talk programme with more than 20 lectures from over 60 speakers, tours and an awards ceremony.

The four-day exhibition will feature more than 2,200 brands, displaying furniture, window and wall decorations, bedroom and bathroom designs, retails products and fibres and textiles.

The talks programme includes speakers from the University of Salzberg, TAKT, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation and the International Wool Textile Organisation.

Top Drawer S/S
15 to 17 January 2023, UK

Top Drawer hosts its Spring Summer event for 2023 in January, presenting more than 500 design brands from across the world.

The trade show exhibits furniture, ceramics, fashion and accessories, interiors, lighting, garden products, health and fitness equipment, textiles and kitchen accessories.

This year's event will explore two trends within the design industry: Modern Psychedelic, which addresses creativity, joy and nostalgia, and Rhythmic Form, which focuses on shape and texture.

The fair also includes Retail Fest, a talks programme with speakers from the Conran Shop and Cath Kidston.

IDS Toronto
19 to 22 January 2023, Canada

Taking place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, IDS Toronto is a trade show presenting more than 140 brands.

The exhibition showcases products from the furniture, textiles, architecture, floorings and finishes, and art sectors.

Alongside the exhibition, IDS Toronto will host a four-day seminar programme addressing topics such as design in the workplace, colour forecasting, Passive House and the use of waste materials.

The event explores how creating, sourcing, producing and distributing has adapted to changing environments in a post-pandemic era under the theme Moving Parts: Design for a Complex World.

Fog Design+Art
19 to 22 January 2023, USA

Fog Design+Art returns to San Fransisco in January, showcasing modern and contemporary art and design.

The exhibition hosts 45 galleries and design dealers, including Berggruen Gallery Lehmann Maupin, James Cohan and David Zwirner.

The fair will also hold a series of panel discussions spotlighting curation, the future of art, pushing boundaries and public art.

Fog Design+Art will once again take place at the Fort Mason Centre.

DesignTO
20 to 29 January 2023, Canada

DesignTO hosts its 13th edition in Toronto with more than 100 events held over 10 days.

The festival includes installations, exhibitions, talks, tours and an awards ceremony exploring topics such as sustainability, climate change, societal issues and development in cities.

The design event covers several disciplines, including architecture, lighting, crafts, furniture, interiors, fashion, outdoors and landscaping and graphic design.

The event will take place at various locations in the city, as well as online.

Oslo Design Fair
25 to 27 January 2023, Norway

Trade show Oslo Design Fair is one of the largest design events taking place in Norway, hosting almost 300 exhibitors.

The fair exhibits design, interiors, furniture, architecture, lighting and crafts, and offers networking opportunities for its visitors.

The event expects to welcome more than 10,000 visitors, including architects, designers, manufacturers and journalists.

Oslo Design Fair, which takes place twice a year, is also hosting a summer edition at Nova Spektrum in August.
