Amtico Bio vinyl flooring by Amtico
Dezeen Showroom: British flooring company Amtico has released the Amtico Bio bio-attributed luxury vinyl tile flooring, which is made from a renewable raw material derived from paper pulp.
Amtico Bio is made using an organic by-product of the paper pulping process. It is turned into ethylene and then into vinyl, cutting carbon emissions by more than 90 per cent compared to fossil fuels, according to Amtico.
Amtico produces the flooring solution using the "mass balance" approach, which means that every time Amtico Bio product is ordered, the full amount of renewable material needed to make it is added into the company's production process.
The products then contain a mix of fossil- and bio-based raw materials, but the materials are segregated in bookkeeping, allowing Amtico to offer Amtico Bio as a certifiably sustainable product, independently audited by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
"This ensures our bio-attributed flooring is affordable and accessible for everyone, as well as supports the next step in PVC's sustainability journey," said Amtico marketing director Holly Johnson.
This approach also means Amtico Bio can be specified with a wide range of Amtico's existing designs, including the Signature, Spacia and Form collections.
