Dezeen Showroom: textile brand Carnegie Fabrics has released a collection of outdoor bio-based upholstery fabrics named Outdoor Biobased Xorel, which is made from sugar cane.
According to Carnegie Fabrics, the Outdoor Biobased Xorel collection of textiles is carbon-positive and contains up to 90 per cent bio-based materials.
"Sourced from rapidly renewable sugar cane, the material has a significantly lower environmental footprint than any fossil fuel-derived product," said Carnegie Fabrics.
"Sugar cane also has a lower carbon footprint than many other bio-based sources, such as beet or corn."
The use of sugar cane in the collection gives the textiles durable and antibacterial properties, making them easy to clean and resistant to fading and stains without the need for synthetic treatments.
The fabrics are suitable for external applications including seat coverings, drapery, cushions and space dividers across the hospitality, healthcare, workplace, industrial and education settings.
The Outdoor Biobased Xorel collection comes in a range of geometric patterns and colours that are woven, knitted or crocheted.
