Six architecture and design events in February from Dezeen Events Guide

Stockholm Design Week, Object Rotterdam, Modernism Week and Nomad St Moritz are among the architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this month.

Among the other events taking place in February are design festivals Design Shenzhen and Madrid Design Festival.

Stockholm Design Week
6 to 12 February, Sweden

For 2023, design festival Stockholm Design Week returns to its usual February slot, having taken place in September last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival presents more than 100 brands and venues across a programme of events, including exhibitions, open showrooms and networking sessions.

The largest event taking place during the festival is trade show Stockholm Furniture Fair, which runs from 7 to 11 February.

The fair hosts more than 400 furniture and lighting exhibitors and introduces new area for collectible and recycled designs.

Stockholm Furniture Fair also hosts 60 talks across the five days, addressing topics such as circular design, wellness, creativity and interior trends.

Object Rotterdam
10 to 12 February, The Netherlands

Design fair Object Rotterdam returns to Rotterdam's HAKA building, showcasing designers from across the Netherlands.

The fair presents over 100 upcoming and established designers, with products spanning the design, crafts, fashion, architecture and art disciplines.

The fair, which launched in 2009, attracts both professionals and enthusiasts of interiors, design, art and architecture.

Madrid Design Festival
14 February to 12 March, Spain

The sixth edition Madrid Design Festival takes place during February and March, exploring different design discipline such as architecture, graphic design, interiors and communication design.

The month-long event has a series of 100 events, including exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops and open showrooms and studios.

The festival features the Off programme, a tour featuring the galleries, studios restaurants and pop-up stores in which design is intergral to the space. The event also hosts an awards ceremony, the Fiesta Design networking parties and the Design Pro conference.

Modernism Week
16 to 26 February, USA

Mid-century design festival Modernism Week takes place for 11 days in February 2023. The event explores design, architecture, art, fashion and interiors in and around Palm Springs, USA.

Now in its 18th year, the festival hosts more than 350 events including exhibitions, tours, talks, a keynote presentation and parties. The 2023 keynote presentations is led by principal at Morphosis Architects Thom Mayne.

While the February festival is the main event of the year, the organisation hosts a "mini Modernism Week" in Autumn, which this year will take place from 19 to 22 October.

Nomad St Moritz
23 to 26 February, Switzerland

The 2023 edition of Nomad takes place in St Moritz, Switzerland, for the sixth time. This year the art and design fair takes place at the Art Nouvea-style Grace La Margna hotel ahead of its reopening in 2024.

The event includes an exhibition of collectible design and contemporary art, tours, open homes and a series of talks. Itfeatures more than 100 global exhibitors including the Serptentine Galleries, Rick Owens and Fornasetti.

Previous editions of the travelling fair have taken place in Capri, Monaco, Venice and Cannes.

Design Shenzhen
27 February to 2 March, China

The inaugural edition of Design Shenzhen takes place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Over four days, the trade show hosts more than 150 brands and installations from across the world, showcasing furniture, coverings, lighting, textile, accessories, kitchen, bathroom and outdoor products.

Alongside the exhibition, the Shenzhen event presents a forum following the theme Design for Wellbeing: Humanity, Sustainability, Technology.

The forum includes a programme of 40 seminars led by architects and designers, addressing how design can improve environmental and human wellbeing.
