Dezeen Showroom: Swedish furniture company Skargaarden has collaborated with Studio Norrlandet to release a versatile sofa that can be placed indoors or outdoors.
The Saltholm sofa has a sturdy frame made from teak wood that contains invitingly soft cushions suitable for both solo relaxation and social gatherings.
The name Saltholm comes from a 16-square-kilometre, sparsely populated island in the sea between Copenhagen and Malmö. The sofa aims to encapsulate a corresponding feeling of being remote yet close to company.
"When we designed the Saltholm collection, we wanted to highlight the contrast between being close yet far away," said Skargaarden. "Close to a glass of cava and small talk on a June evening when the sun hardly sets, and at the same time far away from everyday life and its demands."
Saltholm sofa's thick back and seat cushions as well as its moveable pillows are finished in a charcoal grey fabric as standard but can be upholstered in any fabric from Skargaarden's suppliers.
The sofa is part of a wider furniture collection that includes a lounge chair, lounge table and ottoman.
