Jack-e bed by Zanellato/Bortotto for Bolzan
Dezeen Showroom: created by design studio Zanellato/Bortotto for Italian brand Bolzan, the Jack-e bed puts a twist on a classic with its combination of wood, fabric and leather.
The Jack-e bed is a new interpretation of Zanellato/Bortotto's Jack design for Bolzan, which was launched in 2017 and featured a metal frame.
The new design features a painted timber frame with fabric covers on the headrest and foot of the bed, making it look like the mattress is slung between them.
In the new reimagining, bed's frame is instead made of ash wood, with a choice of four tinted finishes — the red-toned Terra di Siena, natural Grigio Cenere, indigo-like Azzuro Guado and blue Indaco Scuro — or matt lacuqer.
The wooden structure is paired with removable covers in either textile or leather, which according to Bolzan, together represent the manufacturing strengths of the area between Friuli and Veneto where the brand is based.
According to Bolzan, Zanellato/Bortotto chose to revive an existing bed design rather than create a new one in an effort to make a timeless object that would last long into the future.
"The new Jack-e is part of the sustainability path that Bolzan has started time ago and which is identified in its philosophy and in its approach to design," said Bolzan.
