Tranquebar seating by Boris Berlin for Ca'lyah
Dezeen Showroom: multidisciplinary designer Boris Berlin has created a collection of seating for Danish brand Ca'lyah named Tranquebar, which includes chairs and stools decorated with embroidered patterns.
The seating in the Tranquebar collection feature circular wooden seats and backrests with quilted cushions that have been stitched with ornate designs.
Copenhagen-based designer Berlin was informed by trips to Tamil Nadu, India, when designing the collection, where he studied "the richness in colours, patterns, and highly skilled artisanship".
"A powerful pop of vibrant colours make out the centre of the Tranquebar seating and form a surprising contrast to its otherwise clean expression," said Ca'lyah.
"The visible joints and simple circles form a modern piece of furniture, while the colourways and embroidered upholstery transform the seating into a story about its own origin."
According to Ca'lyah, the chairs were made from FSC-certified oak sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The cushioned seats and backrests were made from natural latex rubber foam and upholstered in cotton velour fabric by Danish brand Kvadrat.
