Dezeen Showroom: American designer Richard Frinier was informed by Middle Eastern folk tales when designing the Daydream four-poster daybed, which is available from German outdoor furniture brand Dedon.
Daydream features Viennese-cane-woven surfaces large enough for multiple people to relax together underneath the drooping awning.
In designing the piece, Frinier drew upon the famous depiction of magical flying carpets in One Thousand and One Nights stories, which are more commonly known in English as the Arabian Nights.
"My 'daydream' was to create a unique outdoor daybed infused with an homage to my passion for world travel," said Frinier.
"I believe we all have the desire to travel and wander, whether actually to go to real places or to experience what I call 'mind travelling' to places between our own two ears."
In celebration of the Daydream's 20th anniversary, Dedon has launched the daybed in a bright citrine colourway.
Designed to sit on a sunny terrace or next to a pool, Daydream's frame is made from hand-woven, weather-resistant Dedon Fiber.
The daybed has a fabric canopy and comes with cushions and pillows that are designed to be fast-drying.
