Promotion: a series of talks, events and new spaces will be presented this month as part of annual New York design showcase ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan.
Taking place from 21-23 May 2023, International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is North America's premier contemporary furnishing design fair, while WantedDesign Manhattan is a show dedicated to high-end North American studios and international emerging designers.
ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan take place at New York's Javits Center and includes a range of presentations, experiences and exhibits created by over 400 design brands from over 30 countries.
For the first time, both shows will be under the direction of Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, co-founders of WantedDesign who intend to showcase the best practices in design and spotlight up-and-coming talent in the industry.
"ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan are known for original design and innovation in the residential, contract and hospitality markets," said Hainaut and Pijoulat.
"We're looking forward to expanding on that reputation to include a strong focus on sharing best practices, educating the community and the next wave of designers, enhancing the role of design for the future and creating an incredible experience for our attendees."
Alongside showcasing designs from exhibiting brands, this year's show will feature newly designed spaces, including international pavilions and an exhibition named The Crossroads, which celebrates American design.
The Crossroads has been designed in collaboration with David Rockwell of Rockwell Group, and co-curator Pei-Ru Keh to celebrate established and emerging American designers as well as the union between ICFF and WantedDesign.
"One of the first decisions we took as brand directors of both fairs was to put a spotlight on American Design and to provide a point of view and a panorama on the more established and emerging design scene," said Hainaut and Pijoulat.
The exhibition is divided across a 2,000-square-foot space that focuses on the "American home" and the outdoor environment, including a communal area with a striped dining table, a gallery highlighting the breadth of American design and an area with stools created by a woodworking group for young girls.
ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan also includes Launch Pad, a platform for emerging designers showcasing 70 products, including new concepts and prototypes of furniture, home accessories and lighting. Media partners include Design Milk and Clever and the event is sponsored by American Standard.
In addition to the exhibits, talks and panel sessions on the future of residential and commercial design will be taking place over all three days of the fair across two event spaces, the ICFF + WantedDesign Manhattan Talks main stage and The Oasis x Material Bank space.
Presented by Dezeen and moderated by Dezeen US editor Ben Dreith, a talk named Look Book Live will bring Look Book creators to the stage for a lively exchange with A+D professionals about projects, original design and beautifully crafted products.
Involving over 100 designers, other talks will be delivered by speakers including Snøhetta, David Rockwell, Patricia Urquiola and Dezeen Awards 2023 judge Giulio Cappellini.
Dezeen is a media partner of Look Book 2023.
