Dezeen Showroom: designer Jose A Gandía-Blasco Canales took cues from ring-shaped sweets to create the colourful Chimos rug collection for Spanish brand Gan.
Gandia Blasco artistic director Jose A Gandía-Blasco Canales created the rugs, which are available in a green or red version and two different sizes.
The collection is characterised by ring-shaped motifs that reference Life Savers – an American brand of circular sweets with holes in them, which were especially popular in Spain during the 1980s.
"Within Chimos, the starring figure is a single object, the disc, repeated hundreds of times in a chromatic variation based on its main colour, and on a contrasting background of white or black, depending on the model," said Gan.
Soft to the touch, the rugs were made by hand-tufting and carving pure wool.
Each ring-shaped component was arranged next to the other but features subtle colour variations to provoke moments of "surprise and movement".
